60- Red Slave
Dive site number 60 - Red Slave is a place that immediately makes an impression. The bright red slave houses form a powerful landmark along the south coast of Bonaire, in the middle of an area where wind, waves and history come together. It feels rough, open and full of history.
Underwater, Red Slave shows a completely different world. The reef is elongated, clear and full of coral. A beautiful place for those who have experience with currents. The water movement here can be brisk and requires good control and a confident diving style; therefore this dive site is not suitable for novice divers. But for those with more experience, Red Slave offers beautiful diving.
What makes Red Slave truly special is its combination of rough waters, impressive marine life and deep historical significance. Despite the current, you have a good chance of seeing large sea animals here, such as rays, tarpons, turtles and even sharks. Above the reef, bright red slave houses are a reminder of the island’’s history, adding an extra layer of meaning to every dive.

💡Personal advice💡
- Red Slave is not suitable for novice divers. If you do dive there, be careful of the currents, which can be surprisingly strong.
- Before entering the water, prepare your compass. Then dive by compass to the buoy and then follow the reef against the current.
- Take an experienced buddy or guide with you for this dive. They can provide extra support at the entrance and exit and help navigate with the tides that play a major role here.
