57- Atlantis
Dive site number 57 – Atlantis feels different from other spots on Bonaire. You start with a bit of a surface swim, but once you reach the reef, it’s immediately clear that this site has a lot to offer. Above the water, this is also where kitesurfers are often active, making it a lively and recognizable location.
The reef has a well-defined structure with a wide plateau that gradually transitions into a steeper slope. Here you’ll find a nice mix of hard and soft corals, creating a vibrant and varied landscape. During the dive, you’ll keep noticing small details, from reef fish darting between the corals to hidden marine life if you look closely.
What makes this spot especially interesting to me is the sense of openness toward the deep blue. Along the edge of the reef, it’s worth looking out into the blue every now and then. With a bit of luck, you might spot larger species passing by, such as barracudas or hunting jacks.
Atlantis, in my opinion, is a dive site you may not fully understand right away, but one that reveals something new every time. It’s a place where you need to dive slowly and keep observing—and that’s exactly what makes it so enjoyable.

💡Personal advice💡
- Dive against the current and, when conditions allow, head to the left. This is my favorite part of the dive, as it often offers the most beautiful reef and the best encounters.
- Around 30 feet depth, you are right in the zone with many soft corals, where life is constantly moving around you and you keep being amazed by what you see.
- Always use a DSMB at the end of your dive during your ascent, as Atlantis is also an area where kitesurfers are active and this is essential to clearly signal your position to people above the water.
