54- White Slave
Dive site number 54 - White Slave has a lot of history to share. No matter how many times I visit, the old slave houses never fail to impress. It’s a special piece of history that almost compels you to pause for a moment before entering the water. The silence of the place feels both heavy and beautiful at the same time.
The reef at White Slave lies quite far out, but that doesn’t make the dive any less spectacular. It’s open, clear, and teeming with life. The current is usually mild, just enough to let you glide smoothly without any effort. Sunlight filters through the water in a soft, beautiful way, enhancing the serene atmosphere.
What makes this site truly special for me is the combination of nature and history. You start and end your dive at the historic slave houses, while the reef in between offers plenty of time to relax and feast your eyes on the vibrant underwater life.

💡Personal advice💡
- The exit and entry at the southernmost slave house is the easiest. The water remains shallow here for a long stretch, so take your time and take small steps.
- From the side, I dive at a right angle from the shore, using this as a reference point to navigate back with my compass at the end of the dive.
- The surface swim makes this dive quite a workout. If you have difficulty walking or are less fit, I do not recommend this site. In that case, try a dive like 44 – Angle City, where the reef is closer to shore and just as beautiful.
