20-Oil Slick Leap
Dive site number 20 - Oil Slick Leap is easily accessible and is located opposite of Stinapa. There is also a spacious parking lot where you can easily park your car.
On sunny, windless days, the water at Oil Slick Leap seems to shimmer with an oily rainbow sparkle. This effect is not caused by real oil, but by light refraction on a thin, natural layer of organic material, such as plankton and algae, that floats on the water surface. Because of that shine, fishermen and divers started calling the spot ‘Oil Slick.’ The ’leap’ comes from the giant stride entry you can make in the water. Together this forms the name ‘Oil Slick Leap’

💡Personal advice💡
- At Oil Slick Leap I stay shallow, I always start against the current and to be honest I have never gone deeper than 18 meters here, I love the shallow part.
- Almost everywhere on Bonaire you can walk into the water and a jump is not mandatory. Oil Slick Leap is no different. Jumping is the first option, the second option is to walk backwards down the stairs. Choose what is most pleasant for yourself.
- Before you make the jump, check that your bottle is open and add a little bit of air to your BCD. Calmly place your mask on your face, grab your regulator and keep your octopus at hand. Then take a big step into the water and let your buddy know that all is well, so you can enjoy the dive together safely.
